GUN DEBATE IN AMERICA: ACCLAIMED AUTHORS TO KEYNOTE 2014 Torch Awards

AND THE 2014 TORCH AWARD NOMINEES ARE:

The World Affairs Council, in collaboration with the World Culture Club and the Penn State Hershey School of Medicine, is sponsoring the second annual Torch of Global Enlightenment Awards and will honor organizations and individuals for their work in helping to advance an appreciation for diverse cultures, religious tolerance and global peace. The dinner is sponsored by Penn State Hershey Dean’s Council of Diversity.

The World Affairs Council will select one individual and one organization from the nominees that advances global understanding, with preference being given to those in the Central Pennsylvania region.

The Latino Hispanic American Community Center

Hope International

The Interreligious Forum of Greater Harrisburg

Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness

 

Individuals:

Phil and Susan Wilmot, founders, Solidarity Uganda

Rev. Sandy Strauss, Pennsylvania Council of Churches

Dr. Richard Hughes, retired director of Boyer Center, Messiah College

David Messner, lay leader of St. Stephens Cathedral and organizer of Interfaith Sept. 11 commemoration

Diana Diaz, retired director World Culture Club

The individual and organizational winners of the Torch Award will be announced at the awards  banquet on May 15 at the Fitness and Conference Center of Penn State Hershey Medical School.

The Torch of Global Enlightenment Awards will promote the values of inclusiveness, diversity and multiculturalism in society; as well as openness to world travel and understanding of world history, faiths and cultures.
