We are preparing to launch a second year of our Global Scholars Program – a program designed to engage youth in better understanding of global affairs. This program was created as an added boost for students in college admissions and to help advance appreciation of diverse cultures, people, languages and lands. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded the Global Scholars Certificate during the Annual Torch Awards Ceremony in May 2015.
During the program the participants learn about the geography, economics, politics, and cultures of the targeted region and will get acquainted with the most current and widely-discussed issues of the region. The students will be encouraged to conduct group research on one of the suggested topics.
The Global Scholar Certificate Program serves as the opening stage for global literacy among a wide group of American students from Central Pennsylvania. It also will open further opportunities for the students in international affairs such as the Model United Nations and Academic WorldQuest.
In order to achieve the Global Scholars Certificate, participants are expected to complete the following requirements:
- Participation in the online activities of the program (following and reporting on the current events, writing a blog, listening to the online course/presentations on foreign countries and cultures with the following feedback)
- Participation in at least 3 internationally oriented events, organized by the WACH, or at school or in community
- Participation in Academic WorldQuest Competition or substitute project (International Poetry and Storytelling Competition, presentation on the researched topic, etc.)
- Involvement in the community service projects through WACH or independently
