International Poetry & Storytelling Festival

This annual event celebrates Martin Luther King Jr's legacy through spoken word

The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg consistently recognizes the importance and significance of Martin Luther King Jr Day, and fosters community engagement through its annual celebration of the occasion. Each year, this organization brings together a diverse group of talented and passionate individuals, including local poets and spoken word artists who use their craft to pay tribute to the legacy of Dr. King. The commemoration is also marked by a unique poetry and storytelling competition that is open to high school and college students. Beyond providing a platform for local artists to showcase their skills, this event encourages young people to engage with the key messages and values Dr. King espoused, such as equality, justice, and respect for one’s fellow human beings.
