A Letter from our President and CEO

Dear Associates and Supporters of the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg,

If you haven’t traveled with the World Affairs Councils of America, you’ve missed some truly memorial experiences. Now that COVID seems to be receding — at least for those of us who are vaccinated — we’re are able to head out to distant lands once again.

I wish you could have joined me for the eight-day Dutch Waterways cruise this spring, visiting Amsterdam, Brugge, Gent, as well as the incredible Kuchenhof gardens with its breathtaking blooms in every hue of the rainbow’s scale.

The trip that I led this May for the World Affairs Councils of America set sail aboard the Amadeus Queen, and here’s a big shoutout to the professional crew that ensured the hundred or so passengers aboard would have the trip of a lifetime. The food and wine were gourmet quality and plentiful. And the staff — many from Indonesia — make sure we were treated like royalty.

And when we got off the ship, the true adventure began. Not only did we get to gaze at masterpieces of Van Gogh, Rubens and Van Meer in world-class museums and ancient gothic cathedrals, but we sauntered through rows and rows of tulips, hyacinths and orchids at the Floriade, an exhibition that happens only one each decade.

Go to our website where I’ll post some of the spectacular photos from the trip. And don’t forget to tune in for our Travel Live events on Facebook.

Since COVID-19 stopped most international travel for the past two years, we’ve been trying to keep the dream alive in our monthly Travel Live events in collaboration with the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. If you can’t join us for one of these adventures, at least check out our Travel Live shows where you can at least dream about the wonderful places you will one day go. We can provide all the details on how to book your next trip on the travel page of our website. And I’ll certainly let our associates know when I head out again to explore some fascinating part of the globe.

There’ll be one main requirement, though. Vaccination! Everyone aboard the Amadeus Queen was vaccinated and boosted — passengers and crew. It ensured for a safe environment where everyone could relax in confidence COVID would not spoil the fun.

So, don’t let COVID stop the fun. Get your shot, and get ready to see the world with the World Affairs Councils of America. If you’re lucky, you’ll end up on the Amadeus Queen with me!

The more people who get vaccinated against COVID-19, the better it is for everyone. By stopping the spread of COVID-19, we can keep businesses, schools, and other venues open. Stopping the spread of COVID-19 gets us closer to the end of the pandemic.
