We recently had the pleasure of chatting with Afarin Bellisario, the author of, “Silenced Whispers.” Bellisario’s journey is as captivating as her writing. Born and raised in Tehran, Iran, she now thrives at the intersection of East and West, technology and the human condition.
Her impressive career path includes a PhD and MBA from MIT, followed by success in high-tech and international business. But throughout, a love for writing simmered beneath the surface. After publishing professionally in Iran, she’s found a new voice in the US, with op-eds in major publications and a powerful essay in the anthology “Love & Pomegranates.”
Our conversation delved into the themes explored in “Silenced Whispers,” a story that grapples with the clash between tradition and modernity in Iran. Bellisario, with her unique perspective as a bridge between cultures, offered insightful commentary on the ongoing struggle for agency and identity within the country.
We were particularly struck by her thoughts on the role of technology in this transformation. As Bellisario pointed out, technology has the power to both connect and disrupt. It can be a tool for progress, but it also forces individuals and societies to confront the complexities of change.
