Perched precariously between East and West, Turkey is a nation in tumult. Kemal Ataturk, Turkey’s first prime minister, envisioned a modern democratic nation-state with strong ties to Europe, but the influence of the Middle East is strong.  Unrest in Syria has spilled over into Turkey, and political upheaval is threatening the security of the reigning government.  How will Turkey weather its latest storm? Will the U.S. be able to count on its NATO ally?

Dr. Juliette Tolay of Penn State Harrisburg will be featured speaker at the next Great Female Author dinner at 6:30 p.m. April 10 at Widener University School of Law, Administration Building, 3800 Vartan Way.  Tolay is Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Affairs.
