Apply to be a student scholar to attend the World Affairs Council of America National Conference that creates pipelines to careers in world affairs and fosters a culture of lifelong learning.

What is student scholars?

The Student Scholars Program from the World Affairs Council of America offers World Affairs Councils to nominate one college student for the opportunity to attend the World Affairs Council of America’s National Conference in Washington, D.C. 

While in Washington, the students also attend Scholar Day, an exclusive excursion into DC that includes visits to think tanks, embassies, international organizations, and more. Through these experiences, students map their global futures and take important next steps in their education and careers.

Students attend the national conference free of cost and are provided with lodging and transportation.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE DATES: November 19 – 21, 2025 

Eligibility
  • Currently-enrolled full-time undergraduate student at a U.S. community college or university
  • Every major is eligible.
  • Applicants must show anactive engagement with global affairs or an intent to pursue an international career, or both

Those not eligible include:

  • High school students
  • Undergraduates at colleges in Greater DC
  • Graduate students
  • Prior nominees

Application Process

Apply to be our WACH nominee by September 12th, 2025. We will review your application and notify you within 1 week of your application status. 

You must complete a student application form on the WACA website by September 26th which includes: 

1. Your current resume and 1 page letter of intent
2. Your statement of interest;
3. A current photo;
4. A brief (3-4 sentence) biography;
5. Proof of current college enrollment (letter from Registrar, unofficial transcript, or similar); and 
6. The name, title, and e-mail of a college professor who will write you a letter of recommendation.

Nominated students will be reviewed by the national office in consultation with the WACA Board of Directors. Selections will be announced within 2 weeks after the application deadline.
