Peacemaker in Our Midst Awards – Local leaders honored for peacemaking
Heeding God’s Call — for its efforts to remember victims of gun violence in Harrisburg.
Project Peace — A partnership of the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation, is a peer-mediation, anti-bullying and youth court training program that enhances in Pennsylvania schools and communities the skills of non-violent conflict resolution and active civic engagement that are necessary for productive citizenship.
Rev. Dr. Donna King, Pastor of St. Paul A.M.E., Bellefonte, PA — for attempts to save church as symbol of interracial collaboration to abolish slavery.
John Dernbach, Co-Director of the Environmental Law Center at Widener Law School and author of new book on solutions to global warming.
Rev. Tunde Oyelowo because of his outstanding leadership in the Religious Community. His church, which is located at 3600 Vartan Way, Harrisburg, PA, has 500 members, representing 26 countries from the continent of Africa. The church building also houses an African American congregation, a Hispanic congregation and a french speaking congregation.
Rev. Dann Caldwell, Chaplain of Homeland Hospice and Homeland Center, and Pastor of Shopes United Methodist Church — for efforts to promote religious harmony and interfaith dialogue
Posthumously — Ned Smith –– for his efforts to support peacemaking in the Harrisburg region as founder of Heeding God’s Call. He was active in interfaith and non-violence activities. He died by suicide in May of this year.
