At the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, we recently had the privilege of hosting the 2023 International Peace Symposium, a gathering dedicated to exploring the vision of peace through dialogue, history, and shared values. This extraordinary event would not have been possible without the support and contributions of many esteemed individuals and institutions, and we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude.

Honoring Dr. Michael Yaffe and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP):

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Yaffe and the United States Institute of Peace for their unwavering support. Dr. Yaffe provided invaluable insights into the founding of USIP, tracing its roots back almost 40 years to the visionary concept of President George Washington. His historical perspective enriched our understanding of the institution’s vital role in promoting peace.

Elizabethtown College’s Warm Welcome:

Our gratitude also goes to Dr. Betty Rider, Jesse Waters, and Elizabethtown College for graciously hosting our symposium in the elegant Susquehanna Room in Myer Hall. Dr. Rider’s warm welcome set the tone for the event, and Jesse Waters and the college’s team worked diligently behind the scenes, ensuring every detail, from the technical setup to culinary delights, was impeccably executed.

Cross-Cultural Connections:

We appreciate the active involvement of Dr. Sanjay Paul, an esteemed professor at Elizabethtown College, who joined the opening panel. Dr. Paul’s insights added depth to our discussions, and his initiative to invite students and professors from Konstanz University in Germany enriched the symposium’s international character. We look forward to their participation in our future events.

Gratitude to Our Community:

Our heartfelt thanks extend to our dedicated Board of Directors, our esteemed members, and the supportive community of the Harrisburg region. Your unwavering support and commitment to our events make our mission of fostering global understanding and cooperation possible.

Honoring Peacemakers in Our Midst:

Lastly, we proudly acknowledge and congratulate the Peacemakers in Our Midst who received well-deserved recognition at the event: The Brethren Church, Market Square Presbyterian Church, Peace Islands Institute, and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Your tireless efforts and dedication to peace have made our community and the world a better place.

As we reflect on this remarkable symposium, we are filled with gratitude for the shared commitment to peace and understanding that unites us all. The success of this event is a testament to the power of collaboration, dialogue, and the tireless pursuit of a more peaceful world.

Congratulations once again to all, and we eagerly anticipate future opportunities to come together and continue our journey toward a more harmonious world.
