Women’s History Garden Induction Celebration

On Sunday, October 15th members of WACH and the Civic Club of Harrisburg gathered to honor the newest inductees to the Civic Club’s Women’s History Garden. Six inspirational women, three from history and three modern, were highlighted at this event. Each of these women greatly impacted the Harrisburg region with their tireless work and inspiring stories of relilience. Two WACH board members, Kalpana Doppalapudi and Hagir El Sheikh are among the honorees. Click the links below to learn more about each inductee.

Historic Inductees

Mary Sachs – entrepreneur and philanthropist
Pauline Levinsohn – co founder of the Beth El Temple
Jane Chester – Escaped slavery and opened a successful catering business

Modern Inductees

Ho Thanh Nguyen – Immigrated from Vietnam and founded the Pennsylvania Immigrant Women’s Network
Kalpana Doppalapudi – Immigrated from India and founded Power Women
Hagir El Sheikh – Survivor of the Sudanese Civil War, founder of Tomorrow’s Smile and HSE Staffing
